Access Statement

Our Park is situated in undulating Cornish countryside on the A394 midway between Falmouth and Helston. There is good access to the Park with easy parking at the reception. The reception is wheelchair friendly with double doors and low threshold. Some caravan and tent pitches are positioned on gently sloping grass accessed by a tarmac road the remainder are relatively level. Car parking is adjacent to all caravans and pitches. The road through the Park varies between - near level, 1:30 and 1:18 and has occasional speed bumps which restrict traffic to the 10mph limit strictly observed. There is sufficient room to the side of these bumps to allow passage of pushchairs, wheelchairs and other mobility vehicles.

The Park has 23 conventional holiday caravans consisting of 1/2/3 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, toilet / shower etc. with full recommended inventory. Some of these caravans have low thresholds and access has been possible for certain mobility impaired guests. We would be pleased to discuss limitations when making a reservation. For hearing impaired guests teletext T.V. with subtitle service (888) is available in all caravans. Being a smaller Park we do not anticipate the introduction of a fully converted wheelchair access holiday caravan until the extra space required can be accommodated in our Park layout.

Our reception incorporates a small shop providing basic goods together with take away-food. Wheelchair user accessible facilities include our patio area with tables and chairs outside reception and the games room which also has tables and chairs for take-aways together with a large T.V. for viewing. Wheelchair users also have good access to the grassed play area - although participation on play equipment is very limited. Our small butterfly garden is accessible to all with a paved area and seating.

For 2009 a brand new toilet and shower facility will be open alongside the camping area. This will include ladies and gents toilets and showers together with a laundry room and wash up room. A disabled toilet room is also a feature of this new building providing toilet / shower / washbasin etc. and will be open all season. The laundry is not accessible by wheelchair users, however we would be pleased to offer service washes at normal charges in such circumstances.

At the lower end of the Park we have a second larger disabled toilet /shower room recently completed which offers left and right toilet transfer.  Access from the Park road is via a sloping path at 1:17 & 0.9 metre wide. Although this particular facility is 140 metres to the nearest level camping pitch it is right next to one of our Gweek caravans which has ramped access and may be suitable for mobility impaired guests travelling alone or with family. We would be happy to discuss any points concerning the above.

If a wheelchair is required during your stay we are pleased to arrange this through the local St.John Ambulance who are pleased to accept donations for up keep and maintenance, but please advise when booking. Assistance dogs are welcome on the Park however we do not offer a dog exercise area. As an alternative dogs can be walked along the lane adjacent to the Park at owners risk.

There is an hourly bus service which will stop at the Park from the Lizard Point via Helston and Truro terminating at Perranporth and operates 7 days per week. This service also has connections for Penzance, Hayle, St.Ives and Lands End via Helston and Falmouth, Truro, St.Austell - Eden Project in the opposite direction. There are bus timetables available from Reception where the proprietors will help with last minute details. These services cannot guarantee wheelchair access together with no ramping available at the bus stop. There are various taxi companies calling at the park but we advise all guests to seek quotes for journeys beforehand - details available on request. For rail travel consider Truro rail station as being the more convenient where there are plenty of taxis available for transfer to buses or direct to the park. Road travel from Truro is about 20 - 25 minutes. National Express calls at Falmouth and passes Retanna on the A394 for Helston.

There are two major supermarkets, ASDA (Falmouth) and TESCO (Helston) both approximately 10mins by car plus CO-OPERATIVE and LIDL also in Helston. TESCO on-line will deliver to the Park with registration being required before commencement of shopping. This should be completed before leaving for your holiday. Co-operative also offer a delivery service and their telephone number is 01326 563391 for precise arrangements.

There is a newly opened farm shop just opposite the Holiday Park entrance selling a wide variety of local foods including fresh veg, meat, dairy produce, bread, honey and jams. The nearest petrol filling station is approximately 2.5 miles towards Helston and offers petrol, diesel, auto-gas, basic food / snacks / news and post office.

Although the owners live on the Park and can be contacted in emergency, there is no 24 hour service, however, reception is open daily. The games room is closed 10.00pm daily thereby reducing late night noise to a minimum.

Mobile phone coverage varies depending on types and position on the Park which extends to some 8 acres. By arrangement a land line telephone can be used from reception for mobility impaired guests who cannot access the telephone kiosk.

When making reservations you will always speak to the owners who will be pleased to discuss your requirements with you. We endeavor to offer a comprehensive service meeting your needs as far as possible from information given. Should you require more accessible information we would be delighted to help.

The owners are fully trained in first aid, (one having been a member of St. John Ambulance) and have attended various courses for disability training. Both have operated in the service industry all their working lives and have a wealth of experience on offer.

Please Note.
The Park does not offer a licensed bar, & does not have entertainment or a swimming pool.

In our opinion:
Feed back from previous guests indicates:

  • Staying at Retanna Holiday Park is easier with a car although it is situated on the main bus routes for the county.
  • Our position is ideal for many of the well known attractions, beaches and beauty spots but it wouldn't suit families / groups who want the big facility parks offering evening entertainment, bar, disco etc.
  • Visitors like our position for easy access to Falmouth and all the major attractions and towns in South West Cornwall.
  • Couples prefer June into early July for the special deals plus it's quieter on the park.
  • School holidays are always busy and a little more lively.
